The race for the National Rugby League finals heats up on Thursday, May 23rd, as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs take on the St. George Illawarra Dragons at 5:50 PM PST. Both teams harbor ambitions of reaching the top eight, making this a crucial encounter with significant playoff implications.
Bulldogs Aiming to Avoid Third Straight Loss
The Bulldogs come into the game reeling from a disappointing 20-24 defeat against the Raiders. Early defensive lapses and a predictable offensive strategy that relied heavily on Josh Kikau hampered their performance. The loss follows a promising period of improvement, and head coach Camaron Ciraldo will be looking for a strong response from his team.
Canterbury Bulldogs Form: Doggies Seek Consistency at Home
- Two consecutive losses have dented the Bulldogs' momentum.
- A perfect home record (3-0) offers some solace.
- Consistency remains a significant hurdle for the team.
- Last Five: LWWLL
Dragons Riding a Wave of Improvement
The Dragons, meanwhile, secured a confidence-boosting 28-14 victory over South Sydney in their last outing. Coach Shane Flanagan has instilled a stronger team culture, reflected in their improved start to the season. With five wins from ten games, they've already matched their entire win total from 2023. However, defensive lapses like the 60-point drubbing they received from the Roosters remain a concern.
St. George Illawarra Dragons Form: Dragons Look to Build on Last Week's Win
- A much-needed victory over South Sydney lifted the Dragons' spirits.
- A bye week provided the team with valuable rest and preparation.
- Defensive consistency is key for continued success.
- Last Five: WWLLW
A Close Battle on the Horizon
This promises to be a tightly contested match. The Bulldogs' home advantage could be a factor, but the Dragons' recent form and improved defense shouldn't be underestimated.
