The National Rugby League (NRL) heats up with a massive tripleheader on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, all at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane! Here's a breakdown of each game:
Match 1: Gold Coast Titans (4-6) vs Newcastle Knights (5-5) - 1:00 PM PST
- Gold Coast Titans: After two wins in three games, the Titans face a challenge with key players AJ Brimson and Kieran Foran sidelined. Chris Randall and Sam Verrills step in as a makeshift halves pairing.
- Newcastle Knights: Riding a three-game winning streak, the Knights look to continue their improvement. Injuries force changes, with Tyson Gamble (foot) and Daniel Saifiti (suspension) out.
- Preview: Despite recent wins, the Titans' injury woes might be too much to overcome. The Knights' defensive solidity and Bradman Best's playmaking could lead them to victory.
Match 2: Cronulla Sharks (8-1) vs Sydney Roosters (5-3) - 3:30 PM PST
- Cronulla Sharks: The league leaders extended their winning streak to six games, even with Nicho Hynes missing. Hynes is expected to return for this clash.
- Sydney Roosters: The Roosters are also in top form, winning three straight with a potent offense. However, they lose key player Joey Manu due to a concussion.
- Preview: This is a battle between two premiership contenders. The Sharks boast the best defense in the league, but can they counter the Roosters' explosive attack? A close and exciting match is on the cards.
Match 3: South Sydney Rabbitohs (1-8) vs North Queensland Cowboys (3-7) - 5:45 PM PST
- South Sydney Rabbitohs: The Rabbitohs are in dire need of a win, having lost five straight games. Injuries haven't helped, but Alex Johnston and Jacob Gagai return to bolster their lineup.
- North Queensland Cowboys: The Cowboys are also struggling, with five consecutive defeats. They'll hope for a turnaround with the return of Murray Taulagi and Jordan McLean.
- Preview: Both teams are under immense pressure. The Rabbitohs' depleted attack might not be enough against the Cowboys, who should find scoring opportunities with Taulagi back.
