The excitement explodes as the PBA Philippine Cup Semifinals kick off on Friday, May 17th at the Mall of Asia Arena! Two best-of-seven series promise heart-stopping action as the remaining contenders battle for championship glory.
Rain or Shine Elastopainters vs San Miguel Beermen (04:30 PM)
The Rain or Shine Elastopainters, hungry for their first championship in over a decade, secured their Semifinal spot after a thrilling 2-1 series win over the Tropang Giga. Led by the veteran leadership of Rey Nambatac and the explosive scoring of young guns like RJ Jazul, the Elastopainters will be looking to continue their momentum.
Standing in their way are the five-time champion San Miguel Beermen, a team synonymous with PBA success. The Beermen bounced back from a Game 1 loss to oust the dangerous DYIP in their series. June Mar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo remain a potent scoring duo, while their experience in high-pressure situations shouldn't be underestimated.
Can Rain or Shine pull off an upset, or will San Miguel's championship pedigree prevail?
Meralco Bolts vs Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (07:30 PM)
The Meralco Bolts, boasting a suffocating defense led by Chris McCullough, swept the gritty NLEX Warriors in their Quarterfinal series. Import KJ McDaniels has been a revelation, providing a dynamic scoring punch alongside veterans like Aaron Wynne and Allein Maliksi.
Their opponents, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, needed just one game to dispatch the fading Magnolia Hotshots. Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson continues to be a force on both ends of the court, while the evergreen duo of LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar remain crucial pieces for Gin Kings' quest for another championship.
This matchup promises a classic PBA encounter, with both teams boasting passionate fan bases. Will Meralco's stifling defense overpower Ginebra, or will the Gin Kings' firepower shine through?
