The US Open 2026 brings another exciting chapter for Philippine tennis as Alexandra Eala prepares to face Oleksandra Oliynykova in the second round. The No. 17 seed enters the match with confidence after a dominant opening-round win over American qualifier Mary Stoiana. Eala won 6-1, 6-2, showing the sharp movement, aggressive play, and composure that have made her one of the Philippines’ biggest sports stars.
For Filipino fans, the Alex Eala vs Oleksandra Oliynykova matchup has an extra layer of excitement. This is not their first meeting. Earlier this year at the Strasbourg Open, Oliynykova defeated Eala 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a hard-fought Round of 32 match on clay. Now, they meet again on the hard courts of New York, giving Eala a chance to turn that result around.
Eala’s US Open campaign started in front of strong support at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Her first-round performance was especially impressive after she recovered from early pressure and took control of the match. She finished strongly, winning the final five games against Stoiana. That kind of momentum could be important as she prepares for a familiar opponent who already knows how to challenge her.
The second-round meeting also gives fans a chance to see how Eala has developed since Strasbourg. Clay and hard courts demand different skills, and New York can reward players who serve well, move quickly, and attack short balls. Eala’s left-handed game, powerful forehand, and ability to change direction can create problems for any opponent when she finds her rhythm.
Oliynykova, however, should not be overlooked. Her comeback against Eala in Strasbourg proved that she can stay competitive during long exchanges and handle pressure. For Eala, the key may be maintaining focus throughout every set instead of allowing her opponent to build momentum. A strong start could put the Filipino star in a better position to control the match.

Fans should watch Eala’s return game and movement. If she can pressure Oliynykova early in rallies, she may create more chances to break serve and dictate points. The mental side will be just as important. Their Strasbourg match showed that momentum can change quickly, so Eala must stay composed when games become tight. Strong support from Filipino fans in New York could provide another boost as she fights for a place in the Round of 32. Every point will matter, especially late in sets, where focus and patience can decide the result. That makes this rematch a must-watch for Filipino tennis supporters across the Philippines and beyond.
