In the crowded arena of ancient Egypt-themed slots, Red Tiger's "Jewel Scarabs" emerges with an offering that, while not groundbreaking, adds a fresh twist to a well-loved genre. Set against the evocative backdrop of the desert at dawn (or sunset), this 5x3 slot game invites players on a journey to uncover the riches of ancient Egypt, with the humble scarab beetle playing a pivotal role in the quest for treasures.
Gameplay and Aesthetics
"Jewel Scarabs" distinguishes itself with its simplicity and straightforward mechanics, aimed at providing a retro gaming experience that doesn't compromise on excitement. The game’s visual and sound design effectively captures the spirit of ancient Egypt, albeit without pushing any boundaries in terms of graphics. However, the high resolution and tasteful representation ensure that it's a pleasure to engage with.
Betting starts modestly at ₱5, climbing up to ₱2,500, making it accessible to a wide range of players. The RTP stands at 95.77%, offering solid chances for those looking to capitalize on the game’s payout potential. The slot operates on a 5 reels, 3 rows format, with 9 fixed paylines guiding the flow of play.
Features and Symbols
The paytable is straightforward, featuring a mix of low and high pay symbols. The lower tier includes decorated 9 to A royals, while the higher value symbols embrace iconic Egyptian motifs like the Eye of Ra and Anubis busts. The base game benefits from a 5/5 hit rating, ensuring a steady flow of action as players anticipate the activation of the game's main feature.
The scarab symbol is the star of the show, acting both as a wild and a scatter. Landing three or more triggers the Golden Spins round, wherein the scarabs not only stick around but also come with increasing multipliers for each win they contribute to. These multipliers can combine for exponential wins, and the movement of the scarabs across the reels adds a dynamic element to the gameplay.
Critical Assessment
While "Jewel Scarabs" might not offer groundbreaking innovation within the Egyptian slot genre, its execution of the scarab feature provides enough novelty to keep players engaged. The potential for significant wins, up to 5,245 times the stake, coupled with the game's volatility, makes it a worthy contender for fans of the theme and slot enthusiasts looking for a new challenge.
The game, however, might have benefited from an additional feature to break up the reliance on the scarab for major wins. The wait for the bonus round can be long, and diversifying the action with another element could have elevated the overall experience.
The Verdict
"Jewel Scarabs" by Red Tiger is a competent addition to the ancient Egypt slot canon. It's a game that knows its audience well and delivers a solid, if not earth-shattering, experience. For those looking to explore the sands of Egypt with a new twist, "Jewel Scarabs" is worth a spin.
